History of the fondue

The museum traces the history, art and traditions of the Gruyère region.

Its permanent exhibition presents an important collection of Folk Art: poyas paintings, bells, cream spoons. Reconstructions of interiors (a mountain cheese dairy), objects bearing witness to popular piety, costumes and pictures tell of the economic, religious and social history of the inhabitants between the 16th and 20th century. Collections and documents reveal the richness of a traditional culture based on the farming of mountain pastures and the trading of the famous Gruyère cheese.

Three models of the city of Bulle (1722, 1912, 2002) are part of a multimedia show (also in english). The Museum keeps an important photographic collection and holds various temporary exhibitions.
